JUNYA WATANABE

JUNYA WATANABE

JUNYA WATANABE was founded in 1993 by Junya Watanabe and has presented its collections in Paris since its inception. The brand’s approach lies in designing garments not as decoration or surface, but as constructed structures.

Based on classical tailoring as its structural framework, each garment is developed through processes of deconstruction, reconstruction, and reinforcement, leading to a new point of equilibrium. Advanced materials, technology, and distressed treatments function not as expressive effects, but as essential elements that enable the structure itself. Complex draping and deconstructed forms are the result of a recalculation of gravity and the relationship between garment and body.

Each product is conceived as an assembly of modules, maintaining high levels of practical strength while remaining deeply artistic. This continuous movement between experimentation and implementation has positioned the brand, as a Japanese avant-garde, as a reference point for architectonic fashion within an international context.
