A Montreal-native and one of the youngest designers to win an LVMH prize, Vejas Kruszewski launched his namesake collection at 19 years old with merely a high school diploma and a natural hand for the craft. Entirely self-taught, the young designer built his brand of handmade unisex streetwear separates out of a small studio in Toronto after spending years immersing himself in Japanese lifestyle magazines, deconstructing Celine and Miu Miu sales items, and working at a local cut-and-sew manufacturer. His women’s collection features asymmetric cotton dresses with off-the-shoulder necklines and exaggerated sleeves, as well as reimagined sweatshirts and t-shirts featuring interlocking panels and elasticized accents. Raw denim trousers with contrast stitching exude a utilitarian attitude, while statement outerwear such as satin bombers and colorblocked leather jackets superimpose the masculine and feminine elements to seamlessly pull together the collection.
